DOJ and FBI launch ‘Operation Bot Roast’

The Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have teamed up combat illegal online operations such as creating bot nets, email spamming, and pump & dump stock schemes. US government agencies don’t really have a history of “working together” and sharing information; each wants credit for the bust. However, since this is cybercrime, maybe these two powerful agencies can set a new precedent of teamwork. That, in itself, would be a milestone worth the effort. Reportedly, there are over 20,000 complaints about cybercrime each month in the US.

According to some security firms, the US leads the world in email spam with China a close second. Furthermore, some analysts say that nearly 90% of email spam is delivered via zombie computers, (mostly personal computers hijacked by malware).
