For the next three years Digg.com will partner with Microsoft for delivering of both display and contextual advertising on it’s site. More than 9.5 million people visited the site in June according to data from comScore.
This adds a huge boost to Microsoft’s adCenter growth combined with the facebook advertising deal in August of 2006 and the acquisition of huge advertising network aQuantive for US$6bn in May of this year.
The terms of the Digg/Microsoft deal were not disclosed, but there has been some talk that Microsoft will be contributing some of their technolgy, (high performance servers running NT?), as part of the partnership. This comes
mainly from a statement by founder Kevin Rose on blog.digg.com: “and a more scalable technology platform to keep pace with Digg’s growth.”.
Rob Hof of Businessweek.com says: “it’s a real coup for Microsoft,”
